2017 Summer Council of Presidents

2017 Summer Council of Presidents
Influencing the Public Agenda:
The Public University President’s Role

AASCU institutions are characterized as Stewards of Place, defined as being engaged with the communities and regions they serve. But within this characterization a larger question arises: What is the role of a state college or university president in helping shape the public dialogue and working with their communities to respond to pressing social and civic issues.

Weighing in on major societal issues is not without risk. Governing boards, key stakeholders, and community supporters and others may hold polarizing viewpoints that put them at odds with the university president. The public purpose of public higher education is aligned with the idea that presidents should influence public dialogue. While challenging, this role represents an opportunity to demonstrate institutional values and value.

The 2017 AASCU Summer Council of Presidents will offer participants the unique opportunity to properly frame the challenges and opportunities as they seek to influence the public agenda. It will explore how presidents and chancellors, working together, can affect positive change in controversial times.

The program will offer pertinent information, the opportunity to learn new skills and venues for peer-to-peer sharing.

AASCU’s Summer Council of Presidents programming is designed to provide strategies and tools to help presidents and chancellors successfully lead change, drive innovation and create a sustainable future. Attendance is limited to current presidents and chancellors of member institutions, family members and guests.

Important Note: This event is for only Member Presidents and their guests.  Other people registering will have their registrations cancelled and paid fees refunded, less the standard cancellation charge.  Please contact us for further information and questions.
